Let’s dive into our top 5 reasons to play baseball.

Why baseball is the best sport: 19 Reasons!

#1: The Challenge

Baseball is challenging.  The pitcher is out there trying to get you to swing and miss.  You are standing in the batter’s box with your bat, trying to determine whether a fastball, change up or curve ball is going to come towards you.

You get your stance, grip your bat and the tension builds as the pitcher sets and gets ready to deliver.  The eyes of everyone around the field are watching you, here comes the pitch and bam…you smack a base hit into left center field and leg out a double!

The game is fun and challenging.  The moments are real and the game is right there in front of us.  It takes many hours of dedication to improve your skill level.  Taking batting practice is a must to master this game and get to a quality level, but the journey is a thrill.  There will be ups and downs, but at the end of the day, the solidly hit ball for a line driver base hit is a wonderful feeling!

#2: The Teammates

The teammates and the journey of a season will make it all worth it.  Everyone wil have ups and downs, but the connections built with teammates is something special.  It is a team game, but everyone must do their part to help the team be successful.

Sometimes it is the successful sacrifice bunt or hard slide into 2nd base that makes a difference in the game and the quality teammates will take notice of your dedication to the team.

Baseball is a sport where the season is long and there are plenty of games.  The teammates connect and learn to trust each other in key situations.

Teammates also give you someone to train with and improve with during the off seasons.  In many locations, this includes hours in the weight room, batting cage or taking ground balls during the off season, dreaming about getting out on the field and making it all happen!

#3: The Connections

Outside of teammates there are also the connections with family, friends and coaches.  The connections are a thrill and the journey can be enjoyed by you and those closest to you.  The coaches are there with you on the journey and ride the roller coaster of a season with you. There will be ups and downs and potential hitting slumps, but you will keep working hard to do your best.

These connections help you become a better teammate and colleague in your future profession and how to deal with people as part of a team!

#4: The Versatility

It doesn’t matter if you are 6 foot 3 or 5 foot 7, you can be successful in this game.  The game requires different skill sets by position. The first basemen should be longer and taller, while the middle infielders must be quick on their feet with soft hands and be able to field anything hit their way.  The outfields must be fast with strong arms.  The different skill requirements help those of different sizes with various areas of strength be part of the team.

Everyone must be able to hit, but there will be those with power and those that are contact specialists with speed once they are on the bases.  The skills can be developed over the course of a season or many seasons to specialize your craft.

Some sports require you to be a certain height to be successful, but not baseball where players like Jose Rameriz and Jose Altuve have experienced incredible success at under 5 foot 9 inches.

#5: The Lifetime Memories

Not only does one build lifetime memories with teammates and coaches, but also with their families.  These memories last a lifetime and the game can be enjoyed for many generations.  It is fun to sit back at a baseball game and watch youth, high schoolers or professionals enjoy the game we all love.

These memories will last a lifetime and the journey is simply fun!
